Of all things to blog about...

So Kyle arrived home last night pulling a trailer behind him. I thought "Oh goodness, what does he have now". He melted my heart when he came out carrying a baby calf. It is a precious sight to see a grown man snuggling a 1 day old calf in his arms. But then he pulled out another and another. Yep 10 baby calves , at our house! Six of them are only a day old. And of course the kids all named them poor pitful names like Button Butt and Whisker Noodle Brain. The boys went to bed with smiles a mile wide on their faces thinking of how we have started to grow our little farm they have been dreaming about for quite some time now. BUT....this morning I arose this morning to make Kyle breakfast while he went out and bottle fed each calf. When I went out to tell him breakfast was ready he was handed me the bottle and told me to finish feeding the last one while he went to catch one that had gotten out. Kyle went to go grab it and the little burger took off! Kyle chased it around the yard until it ran into the neighboring pasture. So I put down the bottle and we both jumped in the Suburban and went chasing after it. We couldn't catch it...can you believe it is only a day old and faster than two adults! We went and woke up the kids and they jumped on their bikes with their ropes. We couldn't find it. It is now 10 am and we still can't find it. The boys and I have walked a good 4 square miles looking everywhere and it has just vanished! The darn PITTBULL probably got it! Anyway, so now our happy little farm is minus one calf. His name is Winky Binky Doodle Bop (Katelin's obviously) so if you see him let us know!

The Garden

Last week we broke ground on the family garden. Lots of thanks to my dad and his "Tractor Plow" and the Merrell's for coming out in the wind and the rain to help us plant our huge abundance of carrots, onions, cucumbers, peas, green beans and much much more. Let the weeding begin!

15 hours in the wilderness

Friday we went with a couple of families from our ward to venture into the potholes for a quick night of camping. It turned out to be a really fun 15 hours! Our friends, The Merril's and Kelly Hellewell and all of their kids, camped by Sarah lake. It was beautiful! Chuck Merrill broke out the dutch oven and cooked a yummy dinner of Creamed chicken and scalloped potatoes. Then we had smores. Chuck entertained us with a bedtime story then it was off to bed. The girls and I stayed in the Suburban and the boys stayed in the tent. Savannah did not like camping in the car at all! She wanted her bed. So it was a loooooong night! And cold! But it was all forgotten when we woke up and had a pancake and bacon breakfast by the beautiful lake! It was great fun! Here are some pics:

Spotlight On My Mom

There is no woman more beautiful or lovely as my Mother. Growing up in a house full of boys wasn't easy for us women! But somehow she taught me to be the Young Lady I am today. Kyle laughs and teases me all of the time because I can't change a tire and I can't drive a stick shift car. He says "Are you sure you are Ed Olson's daughter?" It's understandable, being raised around demo races, tractors and boys, boys boys I should have picked up some boy traits somewhere, but thaks to my wonderful mother I grew into a respectable young woman. I spent more of my time with my mom. While my dad took the boys on hunting trips my mom and I were at home painting our nails or doing eachothers hair. I loved when the boys would go out of town on camping trips because that meant my mom and I would get to go out to dinner or on shopping trips. just the two of us. There are so many memories with my mom that are etched into my heart but one that always sticks out is the time she taught me to pray. I was a Senior in highschool and was involved in so much stuff that I was stressed out and having a nervous break down. My mom sensed something was wrong and pulled me into her room to talk. I told her how overwhelmed I was and I didn't know if I could handle it anymore. She said "I think we should pray to Heavenly Father." So we knealt down by her bed and she said the most beautiful prayer to help me in that time in my life." I'll never forget the feeling of knowing that my mom was always going to be there for me. And she has. So thank you mom! Thank you for staying awake for three months straight when Michael and I were born and both had colic! Thank you mom for being my hairdresser for all of my highschool dances, thank you for being my seamstress for all of my costumes, thank you for being my nurse when I got hit by that pickup got Scarlatina and when Missy and I wrecked the dirt bike and looked like Ragedy Anne Dolls, thank you for being my biggest fan during my Jr.Miss days (especially bulding the awesome float!), thanks for being my 24 hour hotline for all of my "mommy" questions, and most of all thank you for being my friend. You are truly my biggest blessing in my life and I wish with all of my heart I will be just like you some day! With all of my love Happy Mother's Day!

Kyle's Play and Weston's Baptism

Well, it's been peace and quite around our house. Which to us is a good thing!! But just to let everyone know Kyle's play starts tonight (Monday). They are having a showing tonight for family home evening. You don't need a ticket for tonight but you will need to get there really early because there is no reservation. Tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are ticket only productions. If you haven't gotten a ticket you can come the day of the play and hope to get one before the play begins.

Weston is turning 8 today! I can't believe it! My little sidekick is growing up! He will be having his baptism this Saturday at the Moses Lake Stake Center. All those that want to come you are more than welcome to. It starts at 6:00. Afterward we will be having his confirmation in the chapel and then dinner in the cultural hall. We would love for all of our family and friends to be there for this wonderful event!
